Three Rivers Regatta is Upon Us; River Closure Info Released

It’s hard to believe, but the Fourth of July Fireworks and the Three Rivers Regatta are less than a week away. Along with the annual event comes a variety of safety zones and river closures that recreational boaters must adhere to on July 3rd and 4th.
The following is the schedule of water-based events that are expected to take place. In addition, please read over the accompanying river closure information provide by the U.S. Coast Guard. As usual there will be times for recreational vessals to transit the safety zones along with the commercial passenger vessels. Please remember to stay at a slow no wake speed and be sure to monitor VHF Channel 16 for instructions from the safety boats.
UPDATE: The bouys pictured to the right will be used to mark the fireworks safety zones this year.

Testing: 2:00pm - 3:30pm

2013 Three Rivers Regatta River Closures
Powerboat, testing, qualifying, and race Safety Zone
July 3 and 4, 2013: The Coast Guard will establish a temporary safety zone from mile 0.3 (West edge of Heinz Field) on the Ohio River to mile 0.0 (Point State Park) to mile 0.6 (Roberto Clemente Bridge) on the Allegheny River, extending the entire width of the river from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The sponsor of the event will be responsible for coordinating with vessel traffic and allowing brief breaks in the event to allow the passage of commercial passenger vessels.
Dragonboat Race Safety Zone
July 4, 2013: The Coast Guard will established a temporary safety zone from mile 0.0 on the Ohio River to mile 0.4 on the Allegheny River, extending 400 feet off the right descending bank from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and then again from 11:00 a.m. until noon.
Anything that Floats Safety Zone
July 4, 2013: The Coast Guard will established a temporary safety zone from mile 0.0 (Heinz Quay) to mile 0.3 (Mazeroski Way/Statue) on the Allegheny River, extending 400 feet from the right descending bank from 10:00am until 11:00 a.m..
Fireworks- Barge Based
July 4, 2013: The Coast Guard will established a temporary safety zone on the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny Rivers from mile 0.5 on the Ohio River (West edge of Rivers Casino) to mile 0.05 on the Allegheny River (Restroom, 330 feet from the Point up-river) and to mile 0.05 on the Monongahela River (Pumphouse, 330 feet from the Point up-river), extending the entire width of the rivers from 9:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.. Specifically, the safety zone will be a 400 foot radius around the fireworks barge, since the specific position of the barge will be determined by the Pittsburgh Fire Marshall shortly before the event takes place.
