Default What to add to your water tank to keep the water fresh?

I have been crumbling pieces off a chlorine tablet that you would put in a pool and dropping it in the tank but one year a rust drip started leaking out of the air lock, staining the fiberglass a little, so I need another solution.

I found an internet recipe that calls for 1/4 cup of bleach diluted into a one gallon jug of water, then add that one gallon to 15 gallons of water in the tank. Bleach is bad for seals so is this method safe?

I think a 1/4 cup to 15 gallons would be good for a disinfectant cycle but a lot for everyday use. I ad a little splash to every tank full. My tank is a 100 gallon. we don't drink ours tho, just used for cleaning and washing up. If you are going to drink yours I would have it tested by a lab for organisms etc and test/ maintain disinfectant levels on a very regular basis.

1 teaspoon of household bleach per 10 gallons of water. Using to much bleach, will cause the water to foam. Don't ask how i know

I use this. It can be found at Wally World in the RV section.
