Thank you for your interest in the Beaver Valley Yacht Club. We hope this information is helpful in your consideration to join our club. The B.V.Y.C. is a private, not for profit club, primarily for the purpose of promoting boating and related social activities on the Beaver River. As the old commercial said, "Membership has its privileges."
There are two different levels of membership in the B.V.Y.C. as described below. Both memberships require a sponsor who is a current member in good standing of the B.V.Y.C.
- Regular Membership entitles you not only to part ownership of the club, but also to store your boat on the docks and/or grounds (fees apply). Full regular membership also entitles you to voting privileges and all other B.V.Y.C. use benefits. Prospective members serve a one year probationary period, in which they can decide if membership is for them. During the probationary year, the prospective member is required to attend four general meetings. Single member/owners of the B.V.Y.C. volunteer 35 hours/year (70 hours for a couple membership) for club social events or work parties. The application fee for a Full Regular Membership is $10. Additional fees will be described to prospective members at the interview with the Membership Committee.
Social Membership is designed for individuals who do not intend to store a boat on the premises. Social members are entitled to purchase alcoholic beverages at our members’ only bar and receive newsletters outlining all of our events. This membership is granted following an application and vote by general membership. The annual fee for Social Membership is $7 per single membership, $10 per couples’ membership. Dockage now available for Social Members; see Home page for more details.
Membership interviews for prospective regular members are conducted by the Membership Committee, usually the week of the General Meeting. Attendance at this meeting is required for all prospective members as you will be introduced to our membership by your sponsor. Final acceptance into membership is voted by the BVYC General Membership at its monthly meeting on the first Friday of each month, except as noted. Completed membership applications with the $10 application fee must be received by the BVYC Membership Director no later than close of business the Monday just prior to the Membership meeting.
Annual Dues are currently $75 per single membership ($150 per couples’ membership). Boat storage, dockage fees and electricity are additional charges. Because there are a limited number of slips, priority for storage is reserved for active members and is based on seniority.
Boating is a hobby that can be enjoyed by the entire family. The B.V.Y.C offers an extensive social calendar and excellent facilities for you to enjoy this hobby.
