For local boaters, trying to find an open slip in the Pittsburgh Pool over the past few years was like trying to buy season tickets for the Steelers or Penguins. The demand was simply greater than the supply. Finally, after years of planning, South Side Marina is set to offer Pittsburgh boaters a new option for docking and hopefully remedy the area’s need for dockage.
The new marina will sit on the banks of the Monongahela River adjacent to South Shore Riverfront Park that opened about a year ago. Docks and marina access will be just down-river from the newly constructed wharf.
South Side Marina is expected to be a “world class” facility with state of the art docks and pedestals for power and water access. While at the dock, slip lease holders will also have access to all that the South Side Works has to offer including the Haufbrau Haus, Cheesecake Factory, and others. In addition, all marina customers will have complete access to maintenance and services through Fox Chapel Marine.
The marina, which is being developed by the ownership of Fox Chapel Marine, is now accepting leases for the upcoming summer of 2015 season. Slip selection is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact Diane Schafer
